Palm Eclipse Information Letter and Opt Out Form
Dear Palm Elementary Parents and Families:
The Austin Independent School District is gearing up for a total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024! The district is aiming for 100% of our campuses to offer students a front-row seat to witness this rare phenomenon firsthand. All students and staff will have eclipse-viewing glasses and will review safety procedures before viewing the eclipse. For more information please visit the AISD Eclipse website.
Because our campus is outside of the totality zone and will not be able to view the eclipse successfully, we are going to view the eclipse from Langford Elementary. This is a great opportunity for the Palm Pandas and Langford Leopards to mingle and get to know one another before we combine during our modernization project next school year.
We will depart for Langford by 12:45 pm and return to Palm at 2:15 pm. All students will eat lunch before we depart and bring their water bottles with them to Langford. After-school dismissal will remain the same.
If you wish for your student to OPT OUT of this field trip to Langford Elementary please complete this opt-out form below and return it to your child’s teacher no later than Monday, April 1, 2024. Opting your child out of this field trip includes opting them out of the entire solar eclipse experience.

El Distrito Escolar Independiente de Austin se está preparando para un eclipse solar total el 8 de abril de 2024. El distrito se ha propuesto que el 100% de nuestros campus ofrezcan a los estudiantes un asiento de primera fila para observar este raro fenómeno de primera mano. Saldremos hacia Langford a las 12:45 pm y regresaremos a Palm a las 2:15 pm. Todos los estudiantes almorzarán antes de salir y traerán sus botellas de agua con ellos a Langford. La salida después de la escuela seguirá siendo la misma.
Si usted desea que su estudiante OPTE POR NO PARTICIPAR en esta excursión a Langford Elementary, por favor complete este formulario de exclusión y devuélvalo al maestro/a de su hijo/a a más tardar el lunes 1 de abril de 2024. Si su hijo/a no participa en esta excursión, tampoco podrá disfrutar de la experiencia del eclipse solar.
